Crochet & Recline

About 2 weeks ago I wanted to learn how to crochet and I thought my first project should be a baby blanket for my daughter. I called my friend Nicole and asked her to come with me to Joann Fabrics because I had no idea what I needed and since she knew how to crochet she could show me how to crochet and what I would need to get started. I bought the yarn and since I didn't know what size of hook I wanted to use I just bought a pack of different sizes for like 6 bucks. We then went back to her house and she showed me how to crochet. It was tough at first because my fingers were not used to the rhythm of how you do it. Then once I got the pattern down it was hard to keep my yarn tight. That is why the first two or three rows at the bottom of this picture ^
are really loose and the rest is nice and tight. By the second day my hands got used to the movement of things and I could not believe how simple and yet time consuming it really is. It feels good to know that I'm actually making something from scratch and that my first thing I make is for my baby. She is the reason why I wanted to learn and I'm surprised that I never thought of this before. I'm a crafty person and for some reason learning how to crochet never popped in my head of things to do. My Grandma Grumbles loved crocheting. I wonder why I never asked her how to do it while she was still here. If I had asked I would have known how to do all this stuff. Last weekend I went to Michael's with my parents and my mom bought me purple yarn and a Learn To Crochet Book. It has a bunch of different designs and I can't wait to try them out. I want to concentrate on one project at a time, so after I'm done with my blanket I'm going to make a bigger blanket for Matthew and I to share. Then maybe I will make some pot holders for our kitchen. I just can't wait to see the outcome!
Just this Monday Matthew and I went to Big Lots. I have been pricing out nursing chairs and my brother and sister-in-law got a nice Glider at Big Lots so I thought I would go to the one right up the street from my apartment. After Matthew got off work we headed over there and saw the same Glider that Aron and Ashley have. I liked it, but this will be going in our living room and Matthew and I didn't think it would look right with our stuff. We looked around and saw a nice cozy recliner and immediately we thought this is the one. It may not be a Glider, but it will look better and it will be more useful in the long run. It rocks and reclines, so that is good enough for me. We call it the nursing /gaming chair. Matthew loves to play his video games and recline at the same time. It's very comfortable! :)

My blog never shows me when you post anymore!

I'm so excited you learned how to crochet. I knew how to do it a long time ago, but I can't remember. All I remember is that I loved doing it. You'll have to teach me again next time I see you! I thought Matthew doesn't like crocheted blankets though...am I remembering correctly?

I deleted my first comment because I didn't know that my name would automatically be listed, and I signed my name. It looked like I didn't know what I was doing. I guess that would be the truth, though; I'm pretty tech-illiterate.

It's so fun to see what you're doing! Your crocheting looks great. Your baby will be so cozy wrapped up in that soft pink blanket.
The Halloween costumes made me smile. I wish I could have been there. Love you!
