My Dad's Birthday!

For my dad's Dec. 11th birthday I wanted to get him something other than just a shirt like I always do. He told me recently that he wanted to see some of John Wayne's recent films. I looked up John Wayne and went straight to Wikipedia to see if his films were listed, which by the way John Wayne is just his stage name and his real name is Marion Mitchell Morrison. Lets just say I'm glad he had a stage name. As I was scrolling down I saw info about his death and I was interested in how "The Duke" died. It said he died of stomach cancer June 11th 1979. I kept reading and I saw that John Wayne was buried in Corona Del Mar right next to Fashion Island in Newport. I immediately thought I would take my dad to see John Wayne! I looked up where he was buried in the cemetery and that same day (Sunday) I drove down to make sure I was able to find him. It was like I was following a treasure map. It was really fun! Sure enough I found him and I called my dad and told him to keep the next Sunday open because I was taking him to his birthday surprise. His actual birthday was Friday but since he was going to a party and I had to work that night I chose Sunday to show him his gift. I had to wait a whole week to finally show him. John Wayne's info read that his grave was unmarked for 20 years. John Wayne converted to Roman Catholicism shortly before he died and he wanted his tombstone to read
"Feo, Fuerte y Formal", in Spanish epitaph Wayne described as meaning "ugly, strong and dignified". However his grave is marked with his 1971 Playboy interview.
It was finally Sunday and I was so excited to have my dad meet John Wayne. My dad drove and when we turned on the street of the cemetery he started to smile. He had no idea why we were going to a cemetery so he said uhhh did you buy me a plot? Haha my mom and I started laughing our heads off! I showed him where to park and walked him down to the tombstone. Right before we got there I told him to close his eyes. I pulled him forward told him to look down and open. He could not believe it was John Wayne. He was so happy that he gave me a great big bear hug! My mother asked him if he ever thought about wanting to see his tombstone and my dad said he had thought about it a few times, but that he thought he wouldn't be able to find it since it was unmarked. It made my day to see my dad so happy. The whole week he was telling me, "I hope you didn't spend a whole lot of money", but I kept telling him that besides gas it will cost nothing. I also told him to dress kinda nice before we left cause I was going to take his picture, so he was even more concerned when we were driving into a cemetery. After I showed him his gift we went to brunch in Newport then the swap meet then we came home and I watched a few shows with my parents. It was a great day and I could tell my dad enjoyed his gift. He even said he may just come visit "The Duke" every once and a while.
I'm glad you had a great day dad! Happy 48th Birthday!

26 Weeks!

I'm officially 26 weeks today! I can't believe how fast time has gone by. It seems like just yesterday I was finding out that we were going to have a baby! I went to the doctor for my checkup and she said the baby is doing great! Her heartbeat was perfect and my tummy is a great size for how far along I am. I'm feeling great! It's getting harder to turn in bed or to get off the couch and to tie my shoes, but it's all worth it! I'm getting my 4d Ultrasound done in a couple of weeks and Matthew and I can't wait to see what she looks like now! It's so exciting and with every kick I feel she just makes me smile that much more! It's crazy to feel so strongly about someone you have never even met. I love her to pieces already and I can't wait for her to be here in my arms! :)

All of us can't wait to see it and its FREE! Matthew and I always get movie tickets for our birthdays and over the years we have saved about 30 movie tickets so we thought why not and invite Gabe, Holly, Chris and Heather for a night at the movies. Our showing is at 7:30 and I can't wait! Well got to go cause Holly and Gabe just got here! :)

So we just got home and I really loved this movie! It was way better than the first! I can't wait for Eclipse!

Crochet & Recline

About 2 weeks ago I wanted to learn how to crochet and I thought my first project should be a baby blanket for my daughter. I called my friend Nicole and asked her to come with me to Joann Fabrics because I had no idea what I needed and since she knew how to crochet she could show me how to crochet and what I would need to get started. I bought the yarn and since I didn't know what size of hook I wanted to use I just bought a pack of different sizes for like 6 bucks. We then went back to her house and she showed me how to crochet. It was tough at first because my fingers were not used to the rhythm of how you do it. Then once I got the pattern down it was hard to keep my yarn tight. That is why the first two or three rows at the bottom of this picture ^
are really loose and the rest is nice and tight. By the second day my hands got used to the movement of things and I could not believe how simple and yet time consuming it really is. It feels good to know that I'm actually making something from scratch and that my first thing I make is for my baby. She is the reason why I wanted to learn and I'm surprised that I never thought of this before. I'm a crafty person and for some reason learning how to crochet never popped in my head of things to do. My Grandma Grumbles loved crocheting. I wonder why I never asked her how to do it while she was still here. If I had asked I would have known how to do all this stuff. Last weekend I went to Michael's with my parents and my mom bought me purple yarn and a Learn To Crochet Book. It has a bunch of different designs and I can't wait to try them out. I want to concentrate on one project at a time, so after I'm done with my blanket I'm going to make a bigger blanket for Matthew and I to share. Then maybe I will make some pot holders for our kitchen. I just can't wait to see the outcome!
Just this Monday Matthew and I went to Big Lots. I have been pricing out nursing chairs and my brother and sister-in-law got a nice Glider at Big Lots so I thought I would go to the one right up the street from my apartment. After Matthew got off work we headed over there and saw the same Glider that Aron and Ashley have. I liked it, but this will be going in our living room and Matthew and I didn't think it would look right with our stuff. We looked around and saw a nice cozy recliner and immediately we thought this is the one. It may not be a Glider, but it will look better and it will be more useful in the long run. It rocks and reclines, so that is good enough for me. We call it the nursing /gaming chair. Matthew loves to play his video games and recline at the same time. It's very comfortable! :)

Survivor

Matthew and I so far love this seasons Survivor! In the beginning of the season Matthew and I did not like Russell at all. We thought he was a jerk of a player that would mess everything up on our favorite side, which was the Foa Foa tribe (yellow). After a few episodes he slowly became our favorite after he found the first hidden immunity idol. We could not believe that he found it without any clues! This week we were really nervous for him because he became THE ONE that we would like to see win, but his head was on the chopping block because the old Galu tribe (purple) wanted Russell gone. Fortunately, he changed that all around after he found the second hidden immunity idol without any clues again! We were amazed and felt so good that he found it! This has never been done in Survivor! We were nervous that he may not play it at tribal council, but we also knew that he wasn't stupid to not play it if his name was even mentioned to go. Yet still we were nervous. Once he stood up to give Jeff the idol and we saw the faces of the old Galu tribe, we were thrilled! We were laughing so much and loved that now they had to lose a team member because the old Foa Foa tribe all voted for Kelly. I just had to give a thank you to Russell for making last nights episode so enjoyable to watch! :)

Baby Update

Tomorrow Matthew and I go for our 20th week ultrasound at 10:30 to find out the sex of our baby. We think it's a girl based off our ultrasound at 15 weeks, but it may be different and tomorrow we will know for sure. Well.... if the baby lets us see we will know for sure. :)
Its only 9:44 this beautiful Sunday morning and I get off work at 3:00 this afternoon. I'm hungry already and I really want to eat my lunch Matthew made for me.
Speaking of my darling Husband he has come a long way since I have been pregnant. Before I was pregnant I did most of the cleaning and cooking and other household chores, but since finding out we are going to have a baby he does everything. He does the dishes, goes grocery shopping, cleans our place, makes me lunch whenever I'm home or packs my lunch when I'm going to work, he even provides snacks for the day if we are going out, he does the laundry, and he cooks! It's funny cause now when I try to help him out by doing the dishes he says I don't place them correctly in the proper place in the dishwasher or when we go grocery shopping together he says he spends more money with me than without me so he kindly asked if he could go alone next time. I feel so useless. The things I used to always do I suddenly can't do them at all. I'm not complaining. I'm just not used to him doing everything for me. I really do appreciate the things he is doing and I'm very thankful to have him by my side through this adventure.

I'm 1 day away from 20 weeks and I feel great! Even though my clothes don't fit and I really dislike going shopping because nothing ever fits right, I can't wait to be a mommy! My tummy is popping out more and I can feel it kick inside. It's crazy to think our bundle of joy will be here soon. :) Time is flying by like crazy and it makes me both excited and nervous because I can't wait to see who our baby looks like more, but I'm nervous about the labor. Ah!
My Nephew will be here any day within these next 2 weeks and I can't wait! Our babies will only be 4 1/2 months apart. I keep my phone next to me at all times waiting anxiously that Ashley is in labor.
Tomorrow I will post how our ultrasound went, but till then have a great rest of the day! :)

Yosemite Vacation

Matthew and I went to Yosemite from Sunday to Friday. It's been a family tradition to go every year before the new school year. I didn't take any pictures except for these ones on the last morning we were there. Matthew and I have seen bears in Yosemite before but this year we saw one that was in front of the cabin right next to us! My brother goes out and runs every morning and I was getting Roxy our dog to go potty and the next thing I know my brother bangs on our door saying bear bear! I pushed Roxy back in her carrier grabbed my camera and walked out our door to see this cute brown bear next door. It was eating this peanut butter thing. A guy walked by and kinda scared the bear and asked my dad if it was a bear? My dad said, no it's a deer. The guy then said, oh it looked like a bear. Then my dad said, no it's just a deer in a Bear's costume. The guy said, oh! haha we were all laughing so hard. He worked for Yosemite so I hope his job wasn't something important that can cause big problems if he isn't paying attention because clearly he couldn't tell a bear from a deer. We also found out our dog loves the water. When we went down to our favorite beach called Cathedral we put her on her leash and she followed us into the water, played with her water toys, and swam swam swam! We had such a good time with her this trip. She was such a good girl! This was a great family trip! My parents have decided to go to Yosemite every other year so we can do a house boat the year we don't go to Yosemite. Can't wait! Especially since there will be two little babies next year. My brother's boy and my whatever it is! :) Pictures to come on my belly soon. :)

New Job!

If you all remember I had an interview about 2 weeks ago and I found out today I got the job for the second time! I know the "second time" doesn't make sense so I will explain. First of all it took a while to hear back the first time cause she had a few more interviews to do and she was supposedly going to tell me last Monday if I got it or not, but the guy she needed to speak with was on vacation and that she will call me either way by Thursday at the latest. Well on Monday last week I found out that I was pregnant so I had a choice to tell or not to tell the lady who might hire me. I finally came to the conclusion to be honest with her since I knew her from Matthew's previous property he worked for. I figured that yeah I could have told her after she hired me, but I would hate to put her in that situation. I didn't know what to do because I wanted this job, but I also knew what my heart was telling me and that was to just be honest no matter what happens. On Thursday she called and immediately I told her that I was pregnant and that I completely understood if she didn't want to hire me now. She was very grateful that I told her the truth and that she really wanted me for the position! So that was the first time I got the job. She said that I would have been a great person to work with and that I would have been great with the residents, but she understood that family comes first. She told me that she has never been in this situation so she was going to talk with someone and see what they say about it. Well today she called and asked me if I still would like the position, so now I got the job for the second time! She said that she knows I may not stay after the baby is born, but that maybe my mind may change if I need the money at the end of 8 months and I totally agreed. She said I will be perfect for this job and the fact that I'm pregnant did not change her mind in any way. I told her that I was really grateful because I was already thinking that she was going to hire someone else since it would be in her best interest to hire someone to stay for a long time. She understood but she really wanted me for this job.
So I took the job and
I will be starting the job around July 20th! I'm really excited to get started! I will be a part time Activities Director for a 55+ apartment community! Funny how life works out when you least expect it!

Puppy Teeth

I never knew puppies can lose their teeth like humans do! I have grown up with dogs all my life and I never knew this until we got our puppy Roxy. On the first of July Matthew got up from the couch and stepped on something sharp he looked down and it was one of Roxy's teeth. We got a little nervous so we called the vet and she laughed in a nice way and said that puppies do lose their teeth. At first we thought that maybe her bones that she chews on were really hard and so that is why it fell out. Thank goodness that wasn't the case. Then last night Matthew sat on the couch and felt something sharp and saw that she lost her other tooth. :) I saved them in a bag and wrote on the bag the dates we found them.

This is how tiny her teeth are compared to a Hot Tamale

Happy 4th of July!

Happy 4th of July everyone! Today is going to be a wonderful day. First my husband has the day off on a SATURDAY all because of the 4th! This morning we are meeting at our friends house to follow him up to Lake Arrowhead because his fiance (our friend Lisa) has her fathers house for the weekend. Since we can't stay through tomorrow we decided to go up for a few hours and come back to go to my aunt's block party which we had originally planned for today. I can't wait to start my day! Happy 4th of July!

I'm so excited to spend this day with him! We have been together for 7 years today! Who would have thought 7 years ago when he asked me out with a poem in front of Grandma Johnson's house that we would be here today?! I love him so much!

Surprise I'm PREGNANT!

I'm PREGNANT! This was a huge shock to me and Matthew! After I found out I met Matthew at his work for lunch and I surprised him with a card that said, Just Because Its Monday! Then he opened it and inside was a my positive test taped to the card! I had the camera ready and this is what he looked like haha

I still cannot believe this is happening and I think it won't really sink in till I start to show. I'm really excited to start our family! We would love a girl first because my brother is having a boy in October, but obviously we would love a boy too! The main thing is that we hope it's a healthy baby! I will post more once I see the doctor.

My picture upload thing still isn't working so I downloaded my pictures to myspace and used the URL version to upload them that it why they are small.

ROXY

We call this our Bungalow because its a way Matthew and I can still cuddle while watching TV together. :)
Here are some pictures of Roxy being silly. :) She is growing up so fast!

Monday Night Angel's Game

Matthew and I went to the Angel's game and we sat in the 4th row from the field! It was a great view! The Angels played Colorado Rockies and lost! It was a really bad game but it was still fun to be at the stadium eating hot dogs and peanuts. "The Wave" went around the entire stadium about 8 or 9 times non-stop it was so funny. Matthew and I have never seen it go for that long! Even though our team did not win we had a wonderful time together! :)

2009 Graduation

Sitting in the chair waiting to graduate I was thinking what am I going to do with the rest of my life? I thought what's next for me? Work? More school? While sitting there I knew I wasn't as proud of myself as I wanted to be and that I wanted to do something great. This morning I woke up and realized that maybe school would be best for me. I know I'm not ready to start working because I don't want a job I want a career! I want to achieve great things in life so that I can finally say I am proud of myself! I want to show my kids the great things in life. Education is the key to the door that opens up a whole new world to anything you set for yourself. I'm really not that great in school, but to be honest I have always just gotten by because I never cared to study. In the very few classes that I really studied and worked hard, I got an A! I'm not saying that now I want all straight A's but now I want to be the best I can be in every situation. 5 years later since my high school graduation, I finally accomplished something in my life and I don't want to end there. I want my Bachelors and Master's and a family all in one. I know it's not going to be easy but I also know that I have my families support and help if ever I need it. Thanks to my family for pushing me to get an education I'm one step higher in life. I'm not saying I'm smarter than everyone cause it took me 5 years so really I have forgotten most of what I learned, but I thank my family and greatly appreciate everything they have done for me. My achievements are not over yet so I'm going to end this here so I don't repeat myself in the years to come. :) Thanks to everyone! I love you!

Class of 2009!

I'm graduating today from SCC and I'm super excited! It has taken me a little longer than I'd like but the day is finally here! I have no idea if I want to continue with school at this moment. I know I'd like too, but I'm not sure as to what exactly I would study. I'd like to go to Baking and Pastry school, so I may do that or I may just work to save up some money and start a family. I don't know what's in the near future, but I'm very happy with what I have accomplished so far!

Fruity Delights

Matthew and I went to Barnes and Noble and bought some really good cook books. As we were walking out I saw this box that resembled a deck of cards but a little bigger and it was all about smoothies. We tried these two today and they were great!
We bought all frozen fruit except for the bananas which we cut up the entire bunch and put in the freezer. Try them! I will post more as we make them! :)
100 g (3 1/2 oz) fresh raspberries
100 g (3 1/2 oz) plain yogurt
100 ml (3 1/2 fl oz) soy milk (we used regular 2% milk and it was just as good)
Blend all together. Swirl in a little yogurt to decorate.

1 small ripe banana
75 g (3 oz) strawberries hulled
250 ml (8 fl oz) orange juice
Freeze bananas for about 2 hours
Blend all together until thick
Decorate with strawberries
Enjoy!
